pleats and folds

I like the idea of having hidden areas of colour which is only slightly
being exposed beneath another layer of fabric.
All influenced by natural form structures which have developed throughout
my project.

Some more of my Lacy Samples

Structured Fabrics

All my previous work has involved me screen printing my drawings and then working into these drawings with stitch to build up textures and colours. As this process is something which I enjoy doing I wanted to continue sampling in this way to develop and experiment with colour and pattern.

While creating more flat samples I have been attempting to create structured pieces after looking at structural elements within organic forms. A lot of these have been created in paper, however I found when using fabrics they were a lot more difficult to control and work with.

The samples are created with my drawings screen printed on to the fabric. I quite like the idea of having some pieces of the print hidden and also I think through distorting the prints of the organic forms it gives an interesting effect combined with the structural elements.

Stitch and Line

Keeping with the theme of organic forms I have been using my inspiration  which I gathered while staying in London during the Summer.
My inspiration is coming from a combination of plant forms and under water sea life. I started to develop my line drawings into stitch to create textural rhythmic samples.

Homeware..

I have been creating practical homeware products by dyeing fabrics and screen printing
to create tea towels, cushions and a cubed seat.

samples

From the previous blogged sample I have been developing a mixture of fabric combinations on top of print.
I like the bold patterns of the fabric combined with my drawings, and layers of  print.

I like good mistakes...

Having made trips to leicester botanical gardens and nottingham castle, I have started to develop ideas from my original drawings. My intentions were for my drawings to be developed onto a screen and screen print samples. However having made my screen and created the prints the end results were a bit disappointing and not what I wanted. So instead I used pieces of fabric ends and layered them up to hide the original print by embroidery.
This first sample is very rough, but I quite like the fabric ends visable and fraying...
I think fabric dyeing is the next step forward!
